Banner of Truth Visit

As an avid reader, I absolutely love when I find a great bookstore! For years I purchased books online from The Banner of Truth, but I never realized until recently that their warehouse in Carlisle PA also has a bookstore attached to it. Being that Carlisle is less than four hours away from where I live, I thought it was worth a journey to see what sorts of treasures I may find there. So I took a vacation day from work and headed down the Pennsylvania Turnpike with my wife for a day trip!

A plaque in the building states that Banner of Truth was founded for the ‘furtherance of the cause of historic Christianity through literature’. Simply stated, this book publisher produces great books. The books I’ve accumulated from them over the years are of the highest quality. The covers, the pages, the bindings, the ink — everything is top of the line premium quality — which makes the reading experience so much more enjoyable for me than a cheaply made book. Aside from the physical quality, they only sell the best of authors… the Reformers, the Puritans, giants like Charles Spurgeon, Jonathan Edwards, J.C. Ryle, John Newton, George Whitefield and many others.

Their new facility was built in October 2022. The entrance contained piles of new releases and some display shelves of merchandise such as coffee mugs, T-shirts and bookends, along with some staff photos and signage from previous locations.

The room to the left of the entrance consisted of a seating area complete with coffee table and couches. One wall had shelves of new books at 10% off and two more walls with a larger section of ‘seconds’ or ‘damaged’ books at 50% off the regular price. Some of those books were in nearly excellent condition and very much a good deal at half off.

The staff was welcoming and helpful. We spent about 90 minutes in the store deciding what we wanted to take home. After perusing the discounted book shelves and finding a few really good deals, I still had some reading material on my wish list that I wanted to add to my library. An individual working in the warehouse took my hastily-written list and returned within a few minutes with my newest reading material. He even offered to carry them to our car!

I was able to add to my personal library Calvin’s three-volume commentary on Job, along with his sermons on the pastoral epistles 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus. Some other books I was able to grab included John Bunyan’s ‘Grace Abounding’, Charles Spurgeon’s ‘The Pastor in Prayer’, Samuel Miller’s ‘Thoughts on Public Prayer’. I will have enough to keep me occupied for the rest of 2026 and into 2027!

The icing on the cake was the selection of free stickers and bookmarks at the checkout. The Banner of Truth is so serious about quality, even their bookmarks are supreme!

Thank you Banner of Truth… we had a great visit at your store!

This site is a collection of my commentary on theology, current events, and everyday blue collar life. My primary purpose is to share my own personal studies in the Scriptures and to show how the Bible has been changing my life. The content here is meant to be an encouragement to my brothers and sisters in Christ: to view everything through the lens of God’s Word, for the Scriptures are what shapes our thinking and governs our behavior.
