Where is your mask? Suddenly, the ‘my body, my choice’ thing isn’t really a thing anymore apparently. This photo was from a store that you’d want to wear a mask into on a regular day.

I walked into Walmart tonight to buy a toilet seat, of all things. A necessary item without a doubt. I didn’t don the mandated mask. It wasn’t really out of rebellion, but because I am free. There was no resistance or hassle whatsoever from the security guards. I don’t know if it was my body language or the fact that it would be a HIPAA law violation for me to disclose if I had breathing problems or other health issues that would prevent me from wearing a mask.

I’ve had exchanges recently with those who demand to be safe and want me to wear a mask. I appear to them to be inconsiderate in insensitive because I might put them at risk. While this may be true, there is no consideration as to how this affects me. Do they know if I have breathing problems? Am I allergic to the material? Am I a person that likes to see peoples countenances and read their facial expressions? What about the deaf person that needs to read lips? What about my personal freedom to do what I want to do with my body? Nothing of the sort, because pro-choice people are usually about choice on one issue. There’s no consideration of who might be affected… only what’s good for ‘number one’.

Smiles? What smiles?! How do we know what is under that mask? We’ve turned a weird  corner in our country. The handshake greeting has disappeared from the cultural landscape, and now people’s faces are all hidden beneath the cloth of fear. We’ve become a withdrawn people, content to crawl under our beds and let life pass us by. In a matter of weeks, we have devolved into a strange, quiet and lonely mass of humanity. How did this happen so quickly?

I am sure this church sign was posted with good intent, but it is severely flawed. When you ‘must’ distance from others? We haven’t distanced ourselves! We’ve pushed ourselves out of other people’s lives. We can’t even interact normally anymore. We’re afraid of everyone else. Walmart was busy tonight with all the mask-wearers, but it was like a library. No talking, no interacting, no socializing. Absolute silence. We’re not even wise about what we’re doing now and have totally ignored the consequences of this distancing concept. Do not fear. Do not anxiously look about you…

This site is a collection of my commentary on theology, current events, and everyday blue collar life. My primary purpose is to share my own personal studies in the Scriptures and to show how the Bible has been changing my life. The content here is meant to be an encouragement to my brothers and sisters in Christ: to view everything through the lens of God’s Word, for the Scriptures are what shapes our thinking and governs our behavior.
