Today, I was reminded again of how savage humanity can be. I watched the movie Unplanned with my wife and teenage son. It’s the true story of Abby Johnson’s involvement with and departure from Planned Parenthood. As a staunch pro-lifer for many years, it was hard to hold back the tears as the movie pulled away the dark curtain of deception, unveiling what really goes on behind the closed doors of the nation’s largest abortion provider.
I was not the only one who cried. There were collective tears of shame for being part of a society that butchers babies. There were tears of regret for not doing something to end abortion. And of course tears of mourning for all those precious babies that had their lives stolen and piled in a garbage can.
What sort of society have we become? How have we become so barbaric that the most vulnerable among us have become so unloved and expendable, sacrificed on the altar of convenience? How have we elected officials who have written legislation that actually promote the murder of babies and who refuse to defund Planned Parenthood?
I couldn’t rip myself away from a couple recurring thoughts as the scenes from the movie tore through my heart:
1). The abortion industry is where Satan’s throne is. The devil is a destroyer and his kingdom is found in abortion clinics around the country. There are ways out of the industry and help available for those who seek it.
2). Those who are seeking abortions are deluded. They have been convinced that it is perfectly normal to murder their own offspring. In the name of “women’s rights”, babies are being sucked from their mother’s womb with no regard to the baby’s rights. Abortion is not normal. It is an abomination and a smack in the face of the Creator who makes all people in His own image. As the movie depicted, there is abundant help for women with unplanned pregnancies who feel they have nowhere to turn.
3). Fervent prayers of God’s people have unlimited and amazing power. People who genuinely care can make a life-changing difference. Enough of the unfruitful anti-abortion protests… how about a display of real love toward those who are hurting and feel like they’re in trouble? Real concern backed up with real prayer and real action will go much further than carrying a taunting sign.
We have become a cold and calloused nation. To our shame, pregnant women and their babies really don’t seem to matter all that much to us. This has to end.
God have mercy.
